General information about walking
It is our aim with walks and other fundraising events to try and cover the daily running costs of the Center i.e. animal feed, water, cleaning materials, electricity, fuel etc. Typically, due to the number of anticipated walkers and the varied ages, walks have been split into two groups:
1. For the younger children, walks will be from one to two hours in length, not too many hills and we will try to always include something of interest eg fossils, streams or archeological sites. Young children must always be accompanied by an adult and dogs are always welcome; we will let you know beforehand if any walk is unsuitable for dogs.
2. For the fitter walkers, walks will be from three to six hours in length and will involve simple climbing (not absailing) and getting wet and muddy from time to time, lots of up and down hills.
The Humane Center needs your support and this is a truly rewarding way of providing it; it is great fun, you will meet wonderful people, and you will experience beautiful areas of Jordan.
Some walking tips from the experts:
Drink BEFORE you start walking.
Never deplete your water supply until you are close to finishing your walk.
Wear a hat. Cover the back of your neck. Use sun screen & keep applying it!
Long-sleeved cotton shirts reduce water loss.
Long pants protect legs from thorns & sharp rocks.
Wear well fitting shoes/boots that have a good gripping sole.
Please check back on this web page to find out a schedule of walks, or call the center.
