Step 1: Consider what it means to adopt a cat...

  • Consider your schedule, do you travel a lot? Although cats are less work then dogs, they do not like to be left home alone for long periods of time. Make sure you have a friend that check on them often.
  • If you are adopting a kitten, please consider that you will have to bring them back to be spayed/neutered after 6 months.
  • Consider the costs of owning a cat, this includes food, toys and medical care.
  • Cats are very independent and will need time to adjust to other animals in the home. Sometimes they will get along right away, they will require sufficient training and attention to live in harmony.
  • Consider if you will allow your cat to go outdoors, if so, they will have natural instincts to hunt, scratch and possibly bring home the catch of the day.
  • Yes, cats are independent but that does not mean they raise themselves. They need love and attention!

Step 2: Find the perfect match

Below is a small selection of cats that are currently available for adoption from HCAW, with brief biographies.

There are other cats ready for adoption as well, so if you are looking for something different, please don't hesitate to send us an email at adoption@hcaw-jordan.org to reserve an adoption appointment.

Step 3: Schedule a Visit

  • Please email adoption@hcaw-jordan.org with your interest in adoption, if you qualify as a forever home you will be referred to an appointment and welcomed to the center to visit dogs that are available.
  • Due to high volumes of appointments it may NOT be possible to help you on a walk-in basis. We try our best to accommodate all of our visitors so that they have the best experience possible.

Step 4: Adoption Process

Please note that, in order to make sure that every adoption is a successful one, HCAW requires that the head of the household does the adoption. In general, students are not eligible to adopt. Therefore, we kindly ask that you bring the entire family to pick out and visit your future cat. The final decision about each adoption rests with HCAW staff, and they have the right to deny the adoption if they believe it is in the best interest of the animal.

  • Each person or family will be required to complete an adoption application before being able to take a pet home.
  • Adoption fee is 75-90 JD, depending on whether the cat is male or female, and it includes spay/neuter surgery, first set of vaccinations (including rabies), and micro-chipping.  As for the price of the animal itself it is your commitment, care and love. There is no profit from the adoption fee.

Step 5: Your new pet at home

Things to have bought and ready:

  • Food
  • Brush
  • Food and water bowls (you can also use regular bowls for this at the start)
  • A cat bed/tree, if that's where you want him to sleep and hang out during the day
  • A variety of treats - you don't know what kind they may like!
  • Cat litter box
  • Toys for playing--Same as above, find a selection of affordable things to see what they love to play with

Training

A number of the pets staying at HCAW have been through difficult and sad experiences. Pets cannot tell you what they have been through. There will certainly be issues to deal with, and to help them settle into their new home will require a lot of care, love and patience.

At HCAW, it is our mission to ensure they are safe from any further harm and that they are given the proper love and care in their forever home.
